“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV)

The life and legacy of Addie Mae Bilbo Marks began on June 7, 1934, in Kinder, LA. She was born to the late Van and Cora Bilbo, the youngest of four children. Addie grew up in Pecan Grove, LA.

In 1952, she married the late Andrew Marks and to this union, five children were born. They would relocate from Pecan Grove to Hartford, CT in 1958 and their final move together brought them to Wichita Falls, TX in 1975. After relocating to Texas, Addie found her ‘forever’ church home at St Paul Missionary Baptist Church. She joined in 1975 and served faithfully until her health failed her. During her forty-five plus years of membership, she served in various ministries. She was a member of the Choir, Usher, and Mission Ministries. She also served as BTU Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, Bus Driver, Deaconess Worker and Cook. The kitchen, later named “Addie’s Kitchen” honored her years of service as Cook. She also prepared and delivered Meals on Wheels as part of outreach ministry efforts.

She was employed in Housekeeping at Presbyterian Manor for 20 years. (1981-2001). Whether you knew her as ‘Ma,’ “GG,’ Sis. Marks, or Ms. Marks, you knew she was a woman of faith who loved her family and was very fashionable in her dress. In 2015, she was appointed The Mother of The Church. A title she cherished. Addie loved being a Mother and Grandmother. She showered her family and friends with an abundance of love, godly wisdom, and great food. She made each of her children, grands and great grands feel special.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Herbert Bilbo; two sisters, Ora Lee Derio, and Avonia Derio; and one daughter, Cora Fiettana Marks Yungai.

Early Friday morning, Sept 2nd, with her family by her side, Addie Mae, like the Apostle Paul, realized her departure was at hand. Having kept the faith and knowing a crown of righteousness awaited her, she peacefully transitioned from labor to reward. Those left to cherish her memories and honor her legacy include, one Daughter, Brenda Washington; 3 sons, Phillip Marks Sr, Fred Marks Sr, and John Marks; one special daughter/granddaughter; Twyla Marks; her two best friends of over 35 years, Nora Ingram, and Alberta Graves; and a host of grandchildren; great grandchildren; other relatives and friends

What an amazing person (Ma). I will miss her so much. Family isn't defined only by last name or by blood it's defined by commitment and by love. The world lost a beautiful soul. Praying that God light shine upon you all. Love you all - Robert " Bobby" Johnson
