Uncle Carl was a big man physically but his heart was bigger. I don't know when exactly he adopted me it was sometime before I was eight but I have known every day since that he loved me. And it mattered to me. Aunt Kathy and all of the rest of the family I am so sorry. I love him and you.

I share a history with Carl . We first worked together at Albertsons over 44 years ago. He taught me how to stock groceries. When the tornado hit in 1979 we both relocated to Corpus Christi during that time. We later worked together again in Abilene and shared an apartment. He was a loyal friend and genuinely cared for others who were struggling. I have fond memories of Carl. I remember one night when I was not pulling my weight on his crew I ended up tossed in a freezer. I didn't want to face the wrath of Carl anymore. I learned to step it up and worked hard around him. Have fun but work hard! He had an impact on my life as I tell this story to my employees today. May the God of comfort bring you super natural peace and strength for the days ahead. We have decades of precious memories of Carl; he & Kathy have been part of my family since 1985, when we first met. Carl was a gifted man with a wide array of interests. He had an insatiable thirst for knowledge, which kept our conversations lively. His practical jokes kept folks on their toes - especially my youngest daughter, who used to tattle on him for cheating at cards & teaching her how to play 52 Pick Up. Carl was highly intuitive & read people well. He was extremely protective of his loved ones, even when he didn't agree with their choices. He was steadfast & loyal, & I will cherish his memory for the rest of my life. I'm looking forward to a reunion some day.
