Carolyn Jean Mergerson was born April 4, 1949 to the late L. C. and Ida Mae (Evans) Mergerson. After her parents relocated in West Texas, Carolyn attended Frederick Douglass Elementary, Junior High and High Schools in Quanah, TX. She graduated from Quanah High School in 1967.

Carolyn gave her life to Christ at the tender age of twelve in the holiness church in Quanah, TX. When she moved to Wichita Falls to pursue her education, she joined the Pentecostal Church Of God In Christ, under the leadership of the late Pastor L.C. Pierce. She currently was a member of the Love Sanctuary Church Of God In Christ where she served faithfully for many years under Pastor James Heath and Supt. Edward G. Downing, Sr. During her Christian life, Carolyn served in several capacities in the church. She worked in the youth department for many years as a teacher of the adult Young People Willing Workers (YPWW) class, as Wichita Falls District Church Of God In Christ(COGIC) chairlady of the YPWW department, and later as president of the district youth department.

Carolyn was a member of the Wichita Falls District Department of Women and Wichita Falls District Department of Women’s Executive Board where she served as secretary of both. In addition, she was secretary of her local church’s Sunday School Department. She served on the local and district communion committees. She was a long-time member of the local and district choirs and was president of the district’s nurses unit. Carolyn served as co-chairperson of the Young Women’s Christian Council. She was a licensed evangelist missionary in the Church Of God In Christ. As a missionary she visited the sick, fed the hungry, conducted revivals, etc.

Carolyn loved caring for her family and others. Because of her caring spirit, she began a career in medicine as a nurse’s assistant. Later she pursued and received a degree in nursing from Wichita General Hospital. During this time she served as vice-president of her class. She graduated as a licensed vocational nurse in 1972.

Bethania Hospital/United Regional Health Care System employed Carolyn for thirty-nine years. During her service at URHCS, she received additional certification in the specialty of critical care. She took basis courses at Midwestern University for two years.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother Ida Mae (Evans) Mergerson; her father L.C. Mergerson; brothers, Dudley C. Mergerson and J.C. Mergerson. She leaves to cherish her memory three brothers, Rev. Alvin Mergerson (Thelma) of Longview, TX; Billy Mergerson (Wanda ) of Wichita Falls, TX; Rickey Mergerson (Lynn) of Wichita Falls, TX; five sisters, Rita Clark of Oakland, California; Betsy Mergerson of Wichita Falls, TX; Christine Brown (Napoleon) of Wichita Falls; Connie Golden (Michael) of Ft. Auntie Carolyn, was the nurse of our family. Anytime we had a question about a medicine or medical procedure, we would always call on her. When someone was going through something she offered good Bible based advice. She will be missed. She is in an incredibly better place now forever. Love you, Byron and family.
