Erma Jean Bedford was born in Munday, TX on January 28, 1953 to Lucius B. Adams and Willie Lavata Toliver. She departed this life peacefully at her home surrounded by family on September 28, 2021. She was the oldest of two children. She attended school in Munday, TX until they moved to Wichita Falls, TX in the early 1960's. She graduated from Rider High School in 1971.

Shortly after graduating high school she met Richard D. Bedford, whom she married on October 17, 1972. From this grand union five children were born: Amar, Abduhl, Anetra, Andrea, and Angela. Also from this union she was blessed with two honorary children, Eric Moore and Sonya Harris (Bedford), whom she treated equally as her own. She raised her children to know right from wrong and treat people fairly.

She worked a few odd jobs before becoming employed with the City of Wichita Falls Police Department as a dispatcher. She worked there for 31 years before she retired in 2005. Although she was retired, she continued to work for the police department in dispatch until she fully retired in September of 2016.

Erma was baptized as one of Jehovah's witnesses on January 7, 1981 along with her husband. She enjoyed fellowshipping with the brothers and sisters of the congregation and serving Jehovah God. She was very active in field service ministry where she would go from door to door ministering the word. When she could no longer go door to door she then began telephone ministry. She would often say she always felt that serving Jehovah God was the best life ever. Erma was a loving, strong willed, no problem saying no, not one for disrespect, superwoman of a mother. She had a joking personality and always had a comeback for her children. She would laugh and shake her head at her children’s foolish antics, sometimes saying "there's something wrong with y'all" but with a smile on her face. She cared for her loved ones and would lend a helping hand if she was able. She was full of life and had advice for anyone who may have needed it. She would dance around the house with her husband who would turn the music on and wait for her to enter the room. She took great-great care of her family, making sure they had everything they needed and were happy. Erma was a devoted, loving wife and mother, a cherished sister and aunt, dedicated grandmother and great grandmother. She will truly be missed by her family and friends.

Erma was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard D. Bedford, her parents, Lucius B. Adams and Willie Lavata Toliver Clark, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Leaving to cherish the memory of Erma are five children: Amar (Denise) Bedford, Abduhl (Sharon) Bedford; Anetra Bedford; Andrea (Patrick) Easter; and Angela Bedford all of Wichita Falls, TX; two honorary children, Eric Moore of Oklahoma City, OK, and Sonya Harris (Bedford) of Dallas, TX; sister, Lynell Clark of Michigan, nine grandchildren: Jazman Harris, Kayera Harris, Diva Gates, Desarae Bedford, Hayley Hartness, ZyeQuavion Easter, Tajzhae Williams, Javion Donnell, and Sa'Mya Williams; a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other family and friends
