Essie Mae Hubbard was born on March 1, 1935 in Waycross, GA to the late Farmer Hubbard and Laura Jackson Hubbard. She went to be with the Lord on April 13, 2020.
Essie received her education in Waycross and later moved to Jacksonville, FL where she met and married William Gary in 1955. Michael and Renée were born to that union. She married Rufus Jenkins in 1969 and three children were born to that union, Michelle, Dorothy and John.
Over the years Essie worked in retail at Treasure City and TG&Y where she provided excellent customer service and always greeted everyone with her winning smile. She also worked as a home health attendant for many years. She was always dedicated to helping others.
Essie was a longtime active member of Eastside Baptist Church until her health failed. For many years she served as an usher and a deaconess. Throughout her journey she enjoyed her children and grandchildren, games, watching TV and spending time with her beloved Tbone. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Dorothy, husband Rufus, and stepdaughter Oneta Gardner.
She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Michael Gary (wife Sheron) and John Jenkins; daughters Renée Williams (husband James) and Michelle Jenkins; stepdaughters, Lillard Jenkins, Darlene Jefferies and Vanessa Taylor; stepsons, Vernell Jenkins, Rodney Johnson and Barry Johnson; grandson, Terrell Robertson (wife Nakeya), grandchildren, Robin, Sherie, Brandon, Gwen, Raymond, Patricia, Paul, Regina, Gregory, Vickie, Rochelle, Carl, Sonja, Angelia, Sherry and Anthony; great-grand daughters, Alivia and Alexia Robertson, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, special friends Brenda Green, Edna Jackson and Marie Young, and other family and friends.
