Obituary For FRED D BURNETT, Jr.

While residing in Cambridge, Ohio, Fred D. Burnett, Jr. passed away peacefully on June 17, 2025. He was born on October 28, 1934, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to the late Fred D. Burnett, Sr. and Viola Arnett Burnett, both originally from Bonham, Texas.

Fred began his academic journey at Booker T. Washington High School in Wichita Falls, graduating with the Class of 1952. He went on to further his education at Prairie View A&M University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. After completing his studies, Fred proudly enlisted in the United States Army.

Following his military service, Fred returned to Wichita Falls, where he taught the sciences and coached tennis at his alma mater, Booker T. Washington High School, and later at Hirschi High School he taught the sciences. He devoted a total of 18 years to shaping young minds and mentoring students.

Later in life, Fred relocated to Ohio, where he continued his career in education and eventually retired from the Cambridge City School System.

Those who knew Fred remember his infectious laughter, quick wit, and love for storytelling. He enjoyed sharing jokes passed down from his father and could captivate a room with his stories late into the evening. Fred was full of life and loved staying active—whether bowling, playing golf, enjoying a game of pinochle, or challenging his children and others to a game of dominoes, where, in time, the students became the teachers.

Fred now joyfully reunites with his parents, Fred and Viola Burnett; Darlene Young Burnett and Iris Blanchard; his sisters Estella Marie and Freddy Mae; and other cherished family members.

He leaves to cherish his memory to two sons, Frederick T. (Linda Denise) of Houston, TX, and Anthony of Wichita Falls, TX; five daughters, Linda B. Love of Dallas, TX, Shalanda Perkins of Columbus, OH, Mea Williams of Katy, TX, Akneca Brumfield (Brian) of Okinawa, Japan, and LaToya Bahr of Cambridge, OH; one sister, Jennie Alsobrook of Merrillville, IN; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

"Mr. Burnett" what a wonderful.long life. Every Hirschi student has their memory of him implante forever. ❣️ For me, his yard stick, slapping desks to get someone's attention or calling out test grades with the military alphabet as he handed out our papers "Foxtrot". The best memory was his passion for his students and his smile that made me smile back. A wonderful, caring man. My sincere condolences to his family. 🙏 Vicki Webster class of 75'
