George Irvin Brickhouse, Jr., son of the late George Irvin Brickhouse, and Kate Pauline Lockett Brickhouse was born on March 5, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. He departed this earthly home on Monday, September 14, 2026 at United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls, TX, with his wife Gwendlyn of sixty-three years by his side.

His siblings are: David, Harry (deceased), Kate, Margaret, Ernestine (deceased), Ronnie and Douglas. George and some siblings grew up in foster care and were moved several times during their earlier years.

He attended several public schools, namely Larley (White Marsh), Townsend, Kenwood and graduated from Parkville High School. Because he was a gifted and talented student, he was able to skip the tenth grade. He attended Eastern New Mexico Community College In Clovis New Mexico, Vernon Junior College, Sheppard AFB campus graduating with an Associate Degree. He attended Park University in Kansas and Austin’s Community Auto Mechanic’s School.

After graduation from high school he joined the Air Force. While stationed at Sheppard AFB, TX, he met and married Gwendlyn Mangrum whom he loved very much on March 20th,1963. To that union four children were born, George Irvin Brickhouse, III., Von Martin Brickhouse and two children who didn't survive because of his contact with Agent Orange in Vietnam. He served twenty years with military assignments to Bases at Lackland in San Antonio TX, Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX, Ton Son Nut in Vietnam, Wiesbaden In Wiesbaden Germany, Cannon in Clovis New Mexico, and Osan, Japan

His Civil Service Assignments were Sheppard AFB Library, at Sheppard AFB, TX; Corrosion Control-Aircraft Maintenance at Sheppard AFB, 88-2nd Training Group; Medical Library at Sheppard AFB. He received twenty-two outstanding Civil Service awards.

He attended Morning Star Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, He was baptized at an early age at Emmanuel Baptist Church, in Baltimore, Maryland where his foster mother attended. Because of his tenor voice, to encourage him, she carried him to sing at various churches in the city. He Joined St. John Baptist Church in Clovis, Now Mexico. While stationed at Sheppard AFB, he joined Greater St. Mark Baptist Church, St. Matthew Baptist Church, and lovingly made Shiloh Baptist Church his home church. His church activities include: Vacation Bible School teacher, Youth Sunday School teacher, Church Administrator, Outreach Assistant Coordinator, Church Bulletin Typist, Meals on Wheels, Commodity Food Distribution, Bus Ministry, and Church Security Ministry.

Community and Club Affiliations include: Lifetime member of the NAACP, 9th Calvary, San Antonio Buffalo Soldiers, Inc., Adult Literacy Council, AARP, Faith Mission of Wichita Falls, TX, Interfaith Ministries, Christmas in April, Chauffeuring Older Citizens to appoints, Northwest Field and Stream Club, Sheppard AFB Rod and Gun Club, Wiesbaden AFB Rod and Gun Club and Eastside Boys and Girls Club.

He enjoyed family gatherings, hunting, fishing, photography, novice mechanic, gardening, cooking, trying to play the guitar, singing to his wife, being Grandpa to all of his grandchildren, and watching TV with his eyes closed with the remote in his hand.

He is survived by his loving wife, Gwendlyn; sons, George III (Maria) and Von Martin both of Texas; sisters, Kate and Margaret both of Maryland; brothers, David of Jersey, Ronnie and Douglas of Maryland; sisters in law, Barbara Davis, Janis Wheeler, and Belinda Martin (Jerry); grandchildren, Andrea, Von II (Gabriela), Maci (Michael), Lexie; great grands, Amari, Villayna, Lillyann, Myka, Gianna; great great grand, Violet; Bonus children and grandchildren Briza (Mario), Mario, Isla, William, Liuvia (A.J.), Sol, Storm, Mark, Abril,Israel (Carolina), David, Josue, Cristina (Eduardo), Jennifer, William, Louis-Javier (Delia), Korin (Hugo), Xochitl (Riando) Karla (Milo)and a host of bonus great grandchildren. Our precious God children, Marcus and Christopher Green; best friends, and sisters in Christ, Linda Green and Mary Diaz; adopted children, Albert Edmonds, Chun Edmonds, Candace Bird, Barbara Hull, Thorney and Diann Taylor, Darion Newsome, (Connie), Corey Robinson and Thorney P. Taylor II; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
