Hazelle Marie Arps-Davis “Mama,” “Granny,” was born to the union of the Rev. Charlie and Susie Arps, Sr. in Chillicothe, TX. She attended Booker T. Washington High School, graduating in 1950.
After graduating high school, she met and married Airman Robert Veshion Davis, Jr. and to this union, seven children were born.

In her early years, she united with the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where she was baptized under the leadership of Rev. L. L. Gordan. She sang in the Youth and Sanctuary Choir, and was a member of Mission I. She also united with the St. John Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Billy R. Delaney, serving as a member of the Sanctuary Choir
and Senior Mission I. She also attended and received many certificates for “Witness for Christ” classes. She later moved her membership to the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr.
Robert M. Castle and now under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Tyrone E. Turner, Sr. She was an active member of the Voices of Gold and Mission I.

She was affectionately known by her husband as “Cookie” and perfectly wore the name Mama to her children whom she cherished, loved, and
supported to the utmost as well as her grand, great-grand and greatgreat- grandchildren. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, cousin and friend.

Mama loved people to the fullest and believed in everyone’s ability to do the right thing. She was an inspiration and always had an infectuous smile with kind words which earned her the title “Mama” to so many others.

She lived her life loving and praising the Lord and was a great example to follow. Mama was a beautiful lady inside and out, a true Diva always “dressed to the nine’s.”

Preceding her in death are parents, Rev. Charlie and Susie Arps, Sr.; husband, Robert V. Davis, Jr.; daughters, Cheryl “Sudie” Davis and Edith “Candy” Moore; grandson, Empra V. Moore; sister, Cassie
Wright; brothers, James Arps, Eugene Arps, David Arps, JC Arps and Charlie Arps, Jr.; best friends, Mignon Lillie and Willie Mae Morgan.

She leaves to cherish her memories, sons, JR McGowan (Carolyn) Murfreesboro, TN, Jerry Davis (Donique) Wichita Falls, TX; daughters, Hazelle “Foxie” Davis, Wichita Falls, TX, Sandra “Red”
Davis, Wichita Falls, TX, LaTonya “Toni” Williams (Robert), Wichita Falls, TX; brother, Spencer Arps (Sylvia), Tulsa, OK; a circle of love, 22 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great
grandchildren; bonus children, The Taylors-Thorney, Diann and Prince; Deloris Hicks; Elfrida VanZandt; Gwen Smith; Lonnie Brannon and Albert Lee Johnson; a host of nieces, nephews, numerous relatives and
friends.
