Jo Ann Woodard Smith was born on November 13, 1957 in Wichita Falls, Tx to the late Samuel Woodard Sr. and Alice Marie Walton. She attended Rider High School and received her General Educational Development Diploma in 1976. Jo Ann started working at Spragg's until they closed, then she began working at LaQuinta Inn as a Housekeeping Supervisor for many years. Jo Ann also worked at Child Care Incorporation for many years until she retired.

Jo Ann received Christ as her personal Savior at a very early age. It brought her joy to serve as a Sunday School teacher for the Children's Church and also taught the "Lil People" as she would call them during Vacation Bible School. She expressed to her daughter often how those "Lil People" would warm her heart because they were so smart, pure, and innocent. Jo Ann once was the #2 president for WMU at St. John Baptist Church. Jo Ann loved the Lord and wouldn't hold back her "Thank you" and gratitude to Him every chance she could. She was known for her encouraging words, beautiful smile, and warm hugs. As her children, it was a unique feeling to be raised by a woman of great statue that consumed most of her time taking care of her children and praising the good Lord, then come to find out 20 years later she transformed into a die hard NBA fan of the Golden State Warriors (but was a former Spurs fan until the Warriors got the light skinned, green eyed guy,LOL). Jo Ann had an authentic soul with a humble, loving spirit. To KNOW her was to LOVE HER!

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents Samuael Woodard Sr., Alice Marie Walton, sister: Barbara Jean DeLucia, and brother in love, Rody Wayne Mergerson.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children Tavares Hansboro, Shemeka Smoot (Myon), Michael Hansboro (Rajneisha); sister: Dorothy Mergerson; brother: Samuel Woodard Jr. (Eloise);brothers: Anthony Woodard, Earl Cross (Shon),Horace McNiel; sisters: Clara Bell, Emma Smith, Anadina Hicks (Herman) Lenora Woodard, and her Best Friend, Cathy Hamilton (Kenneth); 17 grandchildren; 1 great grand baby; nieces, nephews, with a host of cousins and friends.

I, Shemeka, called her My Queen because there isn't any other word to describe what she meant to me alone! She was the best teacher of life, that even though things may get rough and may seem unbearable- you fight and keep on fighting as she continued to show me she did! I am so overly grateful and honored that God gave her to ME, to us, my brothers! She stood up every time she got knocked down and kept running towards the mark!

YOU MADE IT MY QUEEN!! YOU WON ANYHOW!!! I LOVE YOU FOR YOUR STRENGTH AND COURAGE TO FIGHT UNTIL THE LORD SAID I WILL FIGHT THE REST FOR YOU AND YOU" STILL" ENDED UP ON TOP---QUEEN!! I LOVE YOU, LOVE YOU, LOVE YOU TWIN!! REST IN LOVE BABY, UNTIL WE MEET ONE MORE TIME!

It broke my heart when I received a call telling me Jo Ann was called home to rest. I always admired the love and devotion she had for her children, and the close relationship she had with her sisters, and the endless love for her mother. To the children, I know this is the hardest battle you will ever have to fight, you got wounded really bad but there is NO hurt that God can not heal, burden he can not relieve, nor tears he can not wipe away. Because I know how much she loved her family I know you are hurting because of her physical presents is no longer earth bound. If you live the life she desired for you and wanted to see you have. Make her proud. Put God first and don't forget to pray and walk by faith, she is waiting on the other side with her love ones. I will always keep you in my prayers. You still have your Aunt Dorothy and I know she got her sister children back and I know you three got your aunt Dot back. With sincere love and prayer, your Tulip street neighbor Angela Boyd Hamilton
