Celebration of Life for Katherine Waldon Mrs. Katherine Waldon was born in Kilgore, Texas to James and Nancy Henry on July 28, 1922. She accepted Christ at an early age. The family were members of the El Bethel Baptist Church in Overton, Texas. After moving to Wichita Falls, she joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and became a member of the Women’s chorus.

She later united with New Jerusalem Baptist Church. As the oldest active female member, she succeeded Sister Mary Castro as Church Mother.

She loved her church and was in regular attendance until the COVID started in 2019. She was strong believer in social justice and gender equality. She was happy that the Silver Fox Ministry reached seniors in the church and the community.

Mrs. Waldon attended beauty school at Sweat’s Beauty College in Tyler, Texas and earned a cosmetology license. After moving to Wichita Falls in 1958, she began working temporarily in a salon. She encouraged and guided her sons, Angus, Jessie Jr., and Mac as they renovated a small house and turned it into a beauty shop. She named it Henry’s Beauty Shop. She successfully owned and operated her beauty salon for over 40 years.

Mrs. Waldon raised her children and supported her grandchildren by encouraging and motivating them to be the best version of themselves. She made each of them feel a love that remains unmeasured. The breadth of her love reached her great grandchildren and eventually extended itself to loving, caring for, supporting, and guiding six foster children.

After retiring, she began volunteering for Meals on Wheels. Even that became a lesson to her grandchildren- on Saturdays and during the summer, Mrs. Waldon often took them with her to deliver meals.

Mrs. Waldon’s efforts did not go unnoticed by the community. The Community Action Corporation recognized her at an appreciation banquet on April 19, 1999, for her volunteer work with Meals on Wheels.

Mrs. Waldon volunteered from 2003-2007 with the Wichita Falls Independent School District, in the Head Start Program. In this role, she served as a support in the classroom and was once again recognized for her service. In 2006-2007, she received the “Most Supportive Granny” Award.

Even at 94 years young Mrs. Waldon continued to share her gift of volunteerism by enthusiastically preparing lunch bags for New Jerusalem’s Meals on Wheels ministry.

Fiercely independent. She was an avid walker. She had a passion for reading and sewing. She also loved shopping, gardening, healthy cooking and baking.

She learned to use the computer in her 80’s. She enjoyed following her grandchildren and great grandchildren on Facebook. She could often be found attending Women’s Mission via Zoom.

Mrs. Waldon was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Waldon; father and mother, James and Nancy Henry, her sisters Josephine and Beth, her brothers James, Lester, and Joseph. She was also preceded by her sons, Lester and Charles, her granddaughters Renate and Yolanda, as well as her grandson Sean and daughter-in-law, Claudean.
