Colonel Milton Baxter Carr was born on October 31, 1938, in Clarksville, TX to Austin and Oueida Carr. He gained his wings on October 15, 2025.
He attended school in Megargle, TX. He graduated salutatorian of his class in 1956. He later enrolled at Midwestern State University graduating in 1960 with his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry. He furthered his education at The University of Texas, graduating in 1970 with a master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
While attending Midwestern State University, he met the love of his life, Barbara Youngblood. They were married on December 1957. They were married fifty-nine years. To this union, three children were born, Curtis, Sean, and Kathy. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.
Milton proudly served his country in the U. S. Army from 1960 thru 1988 during this time he had a tour in Vietnam where he participated in the only parachute operation during that conflict. Colonel Carr was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, Purple Heart Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with a 3rd Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/Palm, Expert Infantry Badge, Parachute Badge, General Staff Identification Badge, Legion of Merit Medal. While in the military he served as an Operations Research Analyst and a Nuclear Chemical Target Analyst. Colonel Carr retired from the army after 29 years of service.
Milton and Barbara enjoyed visiting family and spending time at the beach with their children and grandchildren. They were avid supporters of the Austin Symphony Orchestra and enjoyed attending the theater and opera. Rather than starting a new career Milton helped reorganize Chapter 1919 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Chapter 1919 soon became one of the largest in the country. Milton enjoyed interviewing hundreds of Purple Heart recipients and writing about their lives in his newsletter, which won multiple national awards.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Oueida Carr, and his beloved wife, Barbara.
He leaves to cherish his memories, sons, Curtis Carr and Sean Carr; daughter, Kathy and wife, Martha; grandchildren, Justin Carr and wife, Jennie, Amber Para and husband, Jo, Megan Arredondo and husband, Raymond, Austin Carr and Matthew Carr; nine great grandchildren; brothers, Carlton Carr and wife, Linda and Lloyd Carr; a host of other relatives and friends.
