Heaven has received another angel. Mother Mozel Hicks, age 96, answered the call of the Lord on May 1, 2026 at 3:24 PM. She was born Mozel Smith, on December 27, 1929 in Little Rock Arkansas. She married AC Hicks on June 14, 1947 in Miller County Arkansas.

Known as Mother Hicks to many, she lived a long and meaningful life marked by resilience, kindness, and a deep commitment to God, family and community. Mother Hicks loved to fish and sew clothes for her daughters. She will be remembered for her gentle nature, her enduring grace, and her unwavering devotion to the people she loved. She never turned away anyone who was in need of a hot meal or a place to sleep. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of her family and friends.

Mother Hicks worked tirelessly in the church as well as the community. In many years of service at Providence Baptist Church, she was the announcing clerk, chairperson for the Pastor’s Aid, treasurer for the Missionary Society, and sang in the Missionary Choir. Mother Hicks was a member of TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) where she lost over 100 pounds and kept it off for life. Mother Hicks volunteered with her daughter Monica Hicks Bailey at Meals on Wheels. Mother Hicks was a one-time recipient of the Volunteer of The Year award for Grace Ministries, a local food bank. She loved that job because she was helping people with food insecurity. Mother Hicks and Mother Ivory, her best friend, were the community Uber service for those who needed to grocery shop, pay bills or go to doctor appointments.

Mother Hicks is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Deacon AC Hicks; parents, George and Rosie Smith’ in-laws Carrie and Peter Hicks; daughter, Monica Hicks Bailey; brothers, AG Smith, Johnny Smith, Galines Smith, Nathan Smith, and Willie Davis; sisters: Mamie Franklin, Arizona Tobey, and Mae Bell Paxton.

Mother Hicks leaves to cherish her loving memory; brother, Elder Jessie Smith (Clara) of Baldwin Park California; children, Robert Hicks (Marilyn) of Denton Texas, Charles Hicks (Delores) of Wichita Falls Texas, Pearlie Brown of Krum, Texas, Tommie Hicks (Bonnie) of Denton Texas, Cheryl Anderson (Clifford) of Burkburnett Texas, Carolyn Logan (Michael) of Lawton, Oklahoma, and James Hicks (Ann) of Burkburnett Texas; 19 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; and many friends and relatives.
