Opal Faye Anders Walters was born on October 23, 1946, in Vernon, Texas, to John Allen and Edith Mae Anders. She was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and continued her education at Midwestern University. She later graduated from Draughon’s Business School in 1965.

Opal Faye married Elwelch Walters in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1966. To this union, four children were born.

She dedicated 26 years of service working in nursing at Bethania Hospital, where she cared for countless individuals with compassion and strength. After her time in healthcare, she continued her commitment to service by joining the VISTA Volunteer Program with the federal government, where she served as a Volunteer Coordinator at the Eastside Boys and Girls Club. In addition to her professional work, she was an entrepreneur and owned Lapo’s Custom Designer Hats and Menswear, where she expressed her creativity and love for fashion.

Opal Faye was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Wichita Falls since 1956. She loved music and lifted her voice in praise as a member of the church choir and the Texhoma Mass Choir. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, great – grandmother and friend.

She was preceded in death by parents, Edith Mae and John Allen Anders; sisters, Sharron Anders and Margaret Dale; brother, Alvin Eugene Williams; daughters, Deborah Walters and Felicia Walters; daughter-in-law, Candy Walters; and grandson, Marcus Walters.

Opal Faye Anders Walters was called to eternal rest on April 20, 2026.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving children, daughters Dionne Smith (Juan) and Latoya Williams; son Elwelch Walters Jr. and god-daughter Cheryl Lewis. She also leaves behind beloved grandchildren: Sarah Walters, E’Sasha Walters, Edith Gaut (Alonzo), Shanticka Petty (Dorian), Dwight Walters (Elva), Jevon Smith (Omedi), Reggie Smith (Mary), Corey Smith (Aliyah), Charvarous Beaver, Tyric Richardson (Breunekca) Elwelch Walters III, Alonzo, Elias, and Eyston Walters; along with 26 great-grandchildren, extended family, and a host of loved ones whose lives she touched deeply and who will miss her dearly.
