Rev. Derek Ray Chatman was born September 5, 1962 in Wichita Falls, TX and went home to his Lord September 14, 2021. He was a loving husband, father, God Father grandfather and friend. He was a wonderful gift to Don Washington and Frankie Chatman. Rev. Chatman grew up in Wichita Falls and spend time in Waxahachie Texas with family.

Derek accepted Christ at an early age and ministered at New Hope, New Birth and later was Youth Minister at POEM with Pastor Romeo Montez. You would find him witnessing to others everywhere he went. He didn’t just PREACH, HE WALKED THE WALK WITH LOVE.

He graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1981. He was an active worker in the community encouraging others to always do their best. He would visit schools to help with troubled teens. As an influential speaker at the schools, he was reaching out to the children with encouraging words and wisdom. He coached football for many years for the Boys and Girls Club and loved coaching the Packers Football Team. He worked at the YMCA (All Hands Cultural Community Center) with the children during the summer and served as a mentor to many. He also worked as a chef for many years as he loved to cook. His favorite football teams were the “Washington Redskins and Oklahoma OU Sooner. You would also find him cheering on his favorite NBA team, the LA Lakers. He was a preacher, teacher, cook and a volunteer wherever he was needed. He loved people and was always willing to give a helping hand in the community and schools. He Derek is survived by wife, Stacy Chatman of Wichita Falls, TX, sons, DereK Ray Chatman III, Dre'Shawn Ray Chatman, Quentin Sedberry, Antonio Maddox, Clifton Sheppard III, Phillip Byrd Jr, D.C. Solomon; daughters, Jessica Sedberry, Shaneisha Williams, and Cutrese Davis, sister, Sheryl Washington and brothers, Donnie Washington, Corey Washington, and Marvin Allen all from Wichita Falls, a host of grandchildren, God children, nieces, nephews, and a large community that loved him unconditionally.

    Dereck was a warm, friendly man, always smiling and willing to help you any way he could. I always enjoyed workout my with him in Food Pantry. He will be missed by many people. With heartfelt sympathy, Wanda McEachren
