Reverend Josephus Daniel (Joe) Sanders transitioned peacefully to his heavenly home on January 7, 2023. “For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's.” Romans 14:8

Joe was born on August 29, 1932, to John D. and Janie Bell McAllister in Benson, North Carolina. He was one of six children, Johnny, Andrew, Bo James, Robert D., and Janie Mae, who all preceded him in death. He loved the Carolinas and would return often.

After high school, Joe joined the Air Force and made it his career. While in the military, he answered the call to the ministry. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration. He spent countless years of biblical studying and teaching the word of God. He served as associate minister in several churches and pastor of the Providence Baptist Church, Burkburnett, TX. He began Reverend J.D. Sanders’s Ministry video and audio taping services. He mentored new ministers at New Jerusalem Baptist Church.

Joe spent many years as a Durham school bus driver for Wichita Falls ISD. He enjoyed driving students, coaches, and sponsors to various activities.

The joys of his life were the children he shared with his first wife Myrna Archie: Josephus (Joe) D. Sanders Jr., Missy Denise Brent both of Dallas TX, and Lillian Resheryl (Cheryl), who preceded him in death.

In 1979, Joe married Bettye Humphrey. Through this union, he gained seven bonus children Charles Humphrey Jr. (Beverly) of Red Oak TX, David Humphrey (Cynthia) of Wichita Falls, Pamela Humphrey (Deb) of Denton, TX, Patricia Humphrey-Daughtery of Wichita Falls, Beverly Humphrey- Fondren (Jimmie) of Severn, MD, Adrain Humphrey of Orlando, FL, and Gary Humphrey (Sonita) of Manor, TX. Bettye and Joe spent 43 years together. During this time, they traveled, attended church conferences and conventions, and enjoyed life.

Left to cherish Joe’s memories are his beloved wife, children, bonus children, nephews and nieces, sisters and brothers-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, friends, and dog Sheena.

Rev. Sanders (aka Papa Joe), it was indeed a pleasure to know you Sir. Every time I stood in your presence, I gained wisdom, insight, perspective, and energy. You will be missed but now you are in GOD's HANDS and you see firsthand that The Promise is True because you've earned your eternal reward. As for Mother Bettye, and the Humphrey-Sanders Family, I thank you for sharing him and I extend my sincere condolences and prayers that GOD will grant you the measure of strength to endure (even) this. Peace, Love, and Blessings to you all. Vincent Carpenter, Portsmouth, VA

Rev, Sanders (Joe) I Will never forget those surprise visits I made home. You will give me the biggest hugs and we will talk for hours. Mostly about the Bible and Life Lessons. You always shared your words of wisdoms freely. I thanked you so many time for showing me how to drive on the highway. It was a joy driving you and the family to our reunions and church conferences. Thanks for always being supportive of my goals and dreams. You and I may not always agreed but I learned to love and respect you. You were a good step father. You made sure we had a good perspective of the Bible and Life. Psalms 119: 105 reads They word is a lamp unto my feet and a light until my path. Thanks for being my beacon of hope and teaching me that God is my light in darkness. May Flights of God Elite Angels Carry You To Your Final Resting Place. 😇😇😇 💐 Love You Bounce Daughter, Bug 🌺
