Richard Dennis was born in Bonham, Texas on May 11, 1950 to Claude and Emma Bedford. He departed this life on April 22, 2021. He was the oldest of three children. He attended Booker T. Washington until he moved to Hirschi High School where he graduated in 1968. While attending Hirschi, he was a member of the football and track team. He was a member to be reckoned with on the field and performed well at shot put and discus.

From a previous relationship, he had a son, Eric. Also from a previous marriage, he had a daughter, Sonya. On October 17, 1972, he married Erma Jean Adams, and from this union, five children were born, Amar, Abduhl, Anetra, Andrea, and Angela.

Richard was employed with the WFISD for twenty-seven years before his retirement. He then went on to work for the Times Record News where he was a paper carrier, then on to become District Manager where he retired in 2006. Richard was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 7, 1981. He enjoyed his fellowship as a Jehovah’s Witness and serving Jehovah God. His home was filled with love, laughter, and happiness over the years. Each person that came in was greeted with a warm smile, a happy hello, and a silly joke. He made sure his home was taken care of, taught his children and grandchildren right from wrong and always had words of wisdom to share when needed. He was a loving husband, devoted father, wonderful brother, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. Richard will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Terrell Bedford and Emma Ruth Bedford; brother Ralph Bedford and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Leaving to cherish the memory of Richard is his wife, Erma Bedford; sister, Wanda (Darrell) Jackson; and seven children; Eric Moore of Oklahoma, City, OK, Sonya Harris Bedford of Dallas, TX, Amar (Denise) Bedford of Wichita Falls, TX Abduhl (Sharon) Bedford of Wichita Falls, TX, Anetra Bedford of Wichita Falls, TX, Andrea (Patrick) Easter of Wichita Falls, TX and Angela Bedford of Wichita Falls, TX; nine grandchildren, Jazman Harris, Kayera Harris, Diva Gates, Desarae Bedford, Hayley Hartness, ZyeQuavion Easter, Tajzhae Williams, JaVion Donnell, and SaMya Williams; fifteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

To my husband and our father, you may be gone but you are not and will not be forgotten. Your smile and deep laugh will be remembered but truly missed. YOU will be dearly missed by us all. You will live always and forever in our hearts…. Until we meet again….. Your Loved Ones.

To the family of Mr. Bedford: A favorite memory of mine about your loved one was when we both were working at Scotland Elementary under the leadership of Mrs. Martinez. I remember Mr Bedford to be a very Christian man and very dutiful about his work. Always a family man, greeting faculty each morning. May God bless each of you is my prayer. Cheri Lyday
