Ruby Lee Johnson was born on June 19, 1929 in Haskell, TX to the late Gus and Louise Platt. She gained her wings February 18, 2024. MOM had many loves, the greatest was her love for God and Family.

She accepted Christ at an early age at Independent Baptist Church in Haskell, TX. She was married to Rev. Benjamin F. VanZandt and they traveled the world.

She later moved to Wichita Falls where she met and married Thurman Johnson. They had twenty-one years of blissful marriage and united with Mt. Pleasant Baptist. Her church activities included a member of Mission 2 Hopewell Circle and later Eveready Circle. She sang in the Senior Choir and Women’s Chorus. She later joined the Voices of Mt. Pleasant. Ruby loved the Lord and enjoyed watching gospel videos on YouTube with her daughters.

She was an active member of the Eastern Stars for many years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Louise Platt; husbands, Rev. Benjamin F. VanZandt and Thurman Johnson; daughter, Alton Louise VanZandt; brothers, Jesse Branch, Isiah Platt, Alton Platt, and Arthur Platt; sister, Herbeline Jackson; foster sister, Josie V. Roberts and God son, Tony Robinson.

She leaves to cherish her memories, daughters, Olivia VanZandt and Elfrida VanZandt; grandsons, Oris Pace and Chris Warmsley; great granddaughters, Olivia Pace, Serina Pace, Cierra Warmsley and Jaida Warmsley; special God Children; Rev. Dr. Robert M. Castle (Michelle), Vera Merritt, Thorney P. Taylor Sr. (Diann), Thorney P. Taylor, II, Mark Delaney, Reginald Blow, Michael Elliott, Kay, Phyllis, Rhonda Hill; Christensen, Loretta, AJ, Andre Williams, Alonzo, Marie, AJ Nelson, Dora, Robbie; Camela Forman; Mary, Alvin; Sandra Daniel; Avis Hill; Sharon West; Sharon Penland; Marsha Shaddock; Reggie Johnson; Sherman Cheddle; Anthony, Cheryl, Marcus, Cinder, Brandy Pslams; Denece Laster; Tina Oliver; Miesha Manning, Erika Carlos and family, D’Arland, and too many more to mention; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
