Wilbert Lessie Bell Jr., lovingly known as Ricky, was born on November 30, 1952, in San Antonio, TX at Wilford Hall, Lackland Air Force Base to the late Wilbert Lessie Bell Sr. and Elvin (Haywood) Bell. He was the oldest son of six children. Wilbert Sr.’s service in the United States Air Force afforded them the opportunity to live in many places during his childhood. The family was stationed in Wichita Falls, TX, twice. It was during their second assignment in WF, Ricky accepted Christ and was baptized by the late Rev. J. O. Bradford at Eastside Baptist Church. While attending Eastside, he was a youth usher and sang in the choir. Ricky attended Hirschi High School, where he played football and was voted Class Favorite. He graduated in 1970. After graduating high, school Ricky attended Midwestern State University. Ricky was a lover of music and played the saxophone, bass guitar, guitar, and keyboard. He was a member of Shango, a local band of Wichita Falls, TX. His love of music led him to meet the love of his life Tasha Lain Montgomery. Tasha and Ricky married on April 19, 1978. Through their 43-year union, five children were born: Mahasin Najla, Hassan Tarik, Anwar Haji-Nasif, Rahsaan Nehemiah, and Miosha Nakia. Ricky and Tasha enjoyed various concerts together as well as attending their children’s and grandchildren’s sports events. Ricky loved seeing his children and grandchildren perform. Ricky was a selfless, hard worker. After high school, he worked many places, most notably being PPG and AAFES. He was employed by Sheppard AAFES for 25 years. Ricky was a thoughtful and kindhearted man. He was loyal to his family and friends. In his free time, he loved listening to and playing music, riding his motorcycles, fishing, and grilling or smoking a variety of meats. He was a dedicated Dallas Cowboy fan. Ricky was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to celebrate his life, devoted wife, Tasha M. Bell, daughter, Mahasin Bell, sons, Hassan Bell (Kathy), Anwar Bell, (Taesha), Rahsaan Bell, and daughter Miosha Bell, grandchildren, Nai’lah Bell-Eaden, Darrell White Jr., Jezeniah, Nasir, and Aiyanna Bell, SaNiyah Jones, and Ezra and Benaiah Bell, sisters, Bessie Lorraine Russell (Gregory), Vickie Gwynn (Howard), Deborah Washington (Ternell), Teri Watson, and brother Kirk Bell, close friends Paul Delaney, R. Jack Gentry, and Darrell Jackson, and a host of nieces, nephews, and numerous other family members and friends who were very special to him.
